*This event explores the organizing efforts of inmates in America's prisons. From the work of jailhouse lawyers, union organizers and inmate councils through the history of prison strikes, uprisings and armed rebellions conditions in U.S prisons are evidenced by the actions of the men and women forced to live through them. We hope to learn from their courageous resistance and ask the question - how can we most effectively support our brothers and sisters behind prison walls?
FILM SHOWING - ATTICA: This film includes memorable stark footage from inside and outside the prison during the uprising and it's tragic aftermath. It's a probing examination of the causes of the uprising and a penetrating study of the police and prisoners involved, including rare historic footage of events as they unrolled.
*FEATURED SPEAKER - Ray Luc Levasseur *- Presentation and Q&A session with local community organizer and former U.S political prisoner Ray Luc Levasseur. Ray will be talking about his organizing experiences on both sides of prison walls.
There is space for people to crash if they come up. There will be food and drink provided at the event. This is a great chance to see gain a deeper understanding of how U.S. prisoners have organized and are currently organizing
